Rooms

Creams, bronzes and browns colour the rooms, which are comfortable, contemporary and moderately sized. The beds have firm mattresses, plentiful soft pillows, crisp linen and dark brown velvet cushions. The floors are parquet, pale and uncarpeted in five of the Daphne Trevi rooms; all the rest have ceramic tiles. Bed types vary from singles and doubles to twins and kings, the main difference between room types is size.

The B&B has a quiet vibe, with rooms spread across three floors of a residential building. If your budget can stretch to it, stay in a large, bright Junior Suite. The Apartment is great for groups or large families, as it is made up of the three double bedrooms and sitting area on the second floor.

All rooms are ensuite, bar two Standard rooms on the second floor which share a bathroom.

Served in the lovely fifth-floor covered terrace, the plentiful buffet breakfast offers fresh croissants, baked rolls, assorted cakes, a variety of cheeses, Italian cold cuts, cereals, yoghurt, fresh fruit, butter, marmalade, honey, Nutella, espresso, cappuccino, caffe latte, hot chocolate, a variety of herbal and regular teas and orange juice. Breakfast is the only meal available (though some finger food might be provided if you're drinking from the wine bar, open until 8:30pm in the summer months), but staff can help with recommendations for lunch or dinner. A coffee and bar menu is available throughout the day during reception opening hours for an additional cost.

There are hundreds of restaurants within walking distance. Winners include Colline Emiliane, next door to Daphne Trevi, which serves up superb cucina bolognese and has some of Rome’s finest pasta. Watch the chefs at work as they handcraft fresh pasta via an enormous window from the street. Around the corner from the B&B is lively Pepy's Bar, which was packed inside on our last visit, so we took a seat outside opposite a fountain and snacked on bruschetta while sipping a spritz, watching the world walk by. For the best pizza near Trevi fountain, head to Piccolo Buco: we loved the blu, butter and culatello white pizza with Normandy butter and ham from Zibello town.

• The question is: where to start in the Eternal City? Daphne Inn suggests Rome Your Way, a 3-3.5 hour walk to the main sites
  
• See where Anita Ekberg romped in La Dolce Vita: the fantastical, foamy Trevi Fountain. If you throw a coin in, you’ll return to Rome
  
• Visit Galleria Borghese, a chocolate-box building packed with Bernini, Caravaggio and Titian, in rambling Borghese park. While there, take a ride on the tethered hot-air balloon
  
• Wander through Ancient Rome along to the Colosseum, through the ruined splendour of the Roman Forum
  
• Visit the breathtaking Pantheon and then make your way to the boho district of Trastevere, via glorious squares Campo di Fiori and Piazza Farnese
  
• Pose on the Spanish Steps, with a view down Rome’s sleekest designer-packed street, Via Condotti, overlooked by Keat’s house
  
• Revel in the Renaissance at Baroque Palazzo Barbarini with its Bernini and Borromini staircases
  
• Shop, shop, shop - starting with Via del Corso
  
• Staff can assist with Vatican bookings, including Wednesday papal audiences, Christmas and Easter Mass, and visits to St. Peter's tomb and the Vatican gardens
  
• After all that walking, head to the Spa next door to the B&B - the staff can book you a Thai massage and other treatments

Daphne Inn welcomes well-behaved children of all ages. Children aged 2 and under are free of charge; children aged 3 and older are charged the normal adult rate.

Family friendly accommodation:

We'd recommend the Family Rooms which can sleep a family of 4 comfortably. The Apartment is a good option for a large family, as it can sleep 7 in 3 double rooms. A number of other rooms can fit a baby cot or an extra bed.

Location

Daphne Inn is in the Trevi area of Rome, close to the famous Fountain and Spanish Steps, just south of Borghese Park.

By Air:
Rome is served by two airports: Leonardo da Vinci/Fiumicino (30km), where most international flights arrive, and Ciampino/G.B.Pastine (18km), for domestic and a few international flights. Click on the links below for a list of airlines serving these airports.

From the Airport
The Fiumicino-Termini train (Leonardo Express) runs every half hour, and is a convenient way to get into the city from Leonardo da Vinci/Fiumicino. From Stazione Termini, hop onto a taxi. From Ciampino, get the Cotral bus (which runs regularly) to Rome's main train station. From here get the metro or catch a taxi. Alternatively Daphne can arrange a transfer for you from either airport. It's a 20-minute walk from Termini Station, though Rome's cobbled and busy streets can make pulling a case hard work.

By Car:
Taking a car into Rome is no joke, but if you are driving anyway, take the Via Cassia exit from the Grande Raccordo Anulare into the north of the city; then follow a good city map.
