SWITZERLAND: BY AIR

From the UK: carriers include British Airways, Swiss International Airlines, easyJet and Flybe. The flight time is around 1.5 hours from London.

Within Europe: try Air France, easyJet, Alitalia and Vueling.

By train from the UK: Eurostar offer a year-round service from London St Pancras to Geneva (via Lille); the journey takes just over 6 hours.

By train within Europe: Take the train to Geneva from Paris and Milan without changing, and from Rome, Berlin and Vienna changing only once. See Seat 61 for more details.

Getting Around

BY CAR: Car hire is available from Geneva airport - see our car rental recommendations. Geneva airport acts as a border between Switzerland and France, with exits on both sides - if you're planning to drive in both countries, pick up a Swiss hire car, which comes with the vignette (annual permit) needed to drive on Swiss motorways. Let your hire-car company know you intend to drive in both countries to avoid any nasty surprises.
